Work Permit in Tanzania

Work permit isan official document that gives an authority for a foreigner to be legally allowed to work in Tanzania for a certain period. The said work permit is said to be issued by the Government of Tanzania under the Ministry of labor and employment to the non- Tanzania who has just looks to start a business or secured Employment

Who is Permitted to Apply for the Work Permit

Only Local incorporated companies and Foreign companies with certificates of compliance and permanent place of business in Tanzania or Zanzibar, are the one who have the authority to apply for the said work permit on behalf of the person who is a non-Tanzania and he or she want the work permit, whereas the Company will apply for the permit on behalf of its employees and directors and the said work permit will be the property of the company.

Classes of The Work Permit In Tanzania

There are different classes of the work permit which Tanzania offers to the non-Tanzania and those are

Class A

-it is for the investorsor self, and the fee is 1,000 Usd.Whereas the maximum time of working is beyond 10 years, as long as the business exists

  • The document requirements for the work permit as far as Class A is concerned are
  • Application letter
  • Memorandum and Article of Association
  • Certificate of Incentives ( if any )
  • Certificate of Valued Added Tax( where applicable)
  • Industrial or Business or Operating Licesnse
  • Application form TFN 901 (2 Forms)
  • Two recent passport size photographs of the applicants
  • Photocopy of a valid passport
  • Sectoral approval( where applicable)
  • Previous work permit ( for renewal application
  • Certificate of Tax identification Number (TIN)
  • Certificate of Incorporation

 

Class B

– it is for employed Non-citizen in possession of prescribed professions and the fee is 500 Usd, whereas the maximum time of working in Tanzania is for 5 years.

Class C

– is for the Non-citizen in possession of other professions and the fee charged by the Government is 1,000 Usd , whereas the maximus time of working is limited to 5 years

Class D

– is for Non-citizens employed or engaged in approved religious or charitable activities and the fee is 500 Usd, whereas, the maximum time of working in Tanzania is limited to 5 years

Class E

– is for refugees and it is for free ( gratis) and the maximum time given is of 5 years.
